At Gorman-Rupp Africa we regard the health, safety and well-being of our employees’ to be of paramount importance. After months of planning and adopting various system enhancements, we can now boast that we are 100% assessed and certified to OHSAS 18001:2007.

The OHSAS 18001 specification was updated in July 2007. The OHSAS 18000 standards were written and published wholly outside of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) framework.

Among other changes, the new specification was more closely aligned with the structures of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 so that organizations could more easily adopt OHSAS 18001 alongside existing management systems.

OHSAS 18001:2007 addresses the following key areas:

  • Hazard identification, risk assessment and determining controls
  • Legal and other requirements
  • Objectives and OHS program(s)
  • Resources, roles, responsibility, accountability and authority
  • Competence, training and awareness
  • Communication, participation and consultation
  • Operational control
  • Emergency preparedness and response
  • Performance measuring, monitoring and improvement

Working hand in hand with Umhilinzeki Consulting & Solutions to audit and certify our occupational health and safety systems has helped us to promote a safe and healthy working environment.
